What Vaccines Should Your Child be Getting in 2017?

The new vaccination schedule for both children and adults has been released and was effective as of February 1st, 2017. This post will discuss the updated vaccine schedule for children.

A recent article from a website called TheVaccinationReaction has posted the updates to both children's and adult's vaccination schedule. As for children's vaccinations, the updated schedule recommends that children between ages 11-12 receive two doses of the Human Papillomavirus (also known as HPV9). This differ from the previous licensed vaccination that stated that children between the ages of 11-12 should be given 3 doses of HPV9. The article reinforces that the vaccine can be given as early as 9 years as old and as late as 13-14 years old. For children older than 15, however, it is still recommended they receive the full 3 doses of HPV9. The second update for children's vaccines recommends that the  two doses of the meningococcal vaccine MenB-FHbp should be administered at a different time rather than the three doses originally recommended. The last update that the article mentions deals with the HepB vaccine. The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices recommends that the hepatitis B vaccine should be administered "within 24 hours of birth" as opposed to the original "at hospital discharge."

If you are going to get your child vaccinated, it is important to make sure you are staying up to date on all vaccination changes! Always be sure to check the vaccinations that have been updated and be sure to follow all instructions accordingly.
